You probably already know this but on September 10th, 2025, there was a politically-motivated assassination of somebody. You know who that is, and references to it will be referred to as "The Incident".

As news of The Incident broke, I posted the announcement to a trusted friend's closed discord server, a place where she allowed myself and others to come together, regardless of our differences, to unwind, discuss our interests and hobbies, and generally served as a more insulated and less toxic version of Twitter. Among the many, many channels, was a channel designed to be a containment zone for Current Events and, gasp, politics. I posted the announcement in this channel, a channel specifically designed for the dissemination and discussion of ongoing events. My intent, and the intent of my messages in the channel afterwards, was "Guys, there is some shit going down, you need to be aware of this, I don't know what the aftermath is going to look like" and within seconds of the initial post, a member replied "deserved".

Then another. Then when called out on this, several other members joined in with something to the effect of "talk shit get hit" and gesturing towards the idea that words = violence, that somebody deserved to have their life taken from them not because of anything they physically did to anybody else, but because of the words they said. I knew going into this that there were going to be disagreements, I don't expect anybody else to fully agree with everything I believe, I likewise expect that they wouldn't expect me to fully agree with everything they believe. I expected and enjoyed our differences. I enjoyed them because it provided a new perspective and kept my own views grounded, every issue they cared about and every stance they took was rooted in their personal experiences. No two people will think the same or experience life the same, nor should they.

I check Twitter, a website the world's most divorced boer who is really into the letter 'X' for some unknowable reason carefully calibrates for maximum conflict. Again, I see the same pattern. People I knew for years busting out the rip bozo reaction gifs and posting about "America deserves a thousand civil wars". Not randos, not bots. People I knew, people I considered my friends. So about after the 12th time I saw this, something inside me snapped. I don't want to be around these people. I don't want to interact with these people.

Let me be completely clear about this: If your thought process is "Somebody on the other political team got shot in the throat? Yippee!" You are retarded. You are addicted to culture war dunks against strawmen of your own making. Nobody, Left (He's a MAGA Republican/Fascist/Nazi), Right (He isn't enough of a MAGA Republican/Fascist/Nazi), or Center (I just want to grill), gave a shit about "Toilet Paper USA" before The Incident. We, in spite of all efforts to the contrary, live in a society defined by Democracy and Democratic norms. We tolerate disagreements, we do not tolerate assassinations. We do not tolerate those who's first instinct to an opposing voice is to reach for a bat or a gun. I am not going to tolerate those people. They can post whatever they want, they will not do so with me.

So yeah, I did crash out. I did go on a massive blocking spree. I didn't log off, I did not "have a normal one". Why? Because the bar wasn't high. I just wanted people to behave for a bit. I expected them to act like adults and, if not give a shit, pretend to give a shit. This was too much of an ask, turns out. I never asked anybody to mourn Charlie Kirk. I still don't. The ONE ask that I had was that people realize where we are, where we are heading, and to not be retarded for at least a little bit. Repeatedly, this was too much to expect.

For those of you that have chosen to stay beside me after this, I am sincerely thankful. I thank you for staying beside me during my worst moments. I thank you for not seeing me as a monster. I thank you for seeing me as a person, with all the nuance, good and bad that entails. I thank you for allowing me in your lives, and hope I am as positive an influence in your life as you have been in mine.

To everyone else,

Get Fucked.
