Translation of Q&As and other stuff from Kazuki's recent Insta live.

Posted by @arisuonice

Note: Originally I was only going to translate what he said about Koshiro and Shoma because I couldn't take notes of everything while I was listening, but there were many interesting questions so I decided to translate those too. However! I couldn't listen to the archive while it was up, so all the other questions are translated relying on my memory. Although I only wrote what I'm confident about, please take it more as a report than as a literal translation.

[Q&As]
-He started skating because his parents made him. His mother also used to skate, and since he was a hyperactive child she decided figure skating would be perfect for him. When he was little he skated because he was scared of his teacher who was very strict, but once he grew up he started to enjoy it genuinely.
-He has always liked ramen. He said many skaters like ramen. Also, usually there are a lot of ramen places near universities, so when he and his friends decide to go eat somewhere it often ends up being a ramen place.
-He usually doesn’t eat instant ramen. However, there is a type of pork ramen by the brand Tomita (sold in 7/11) that he really loves.
-One day he wants to try and dye his hair bright red or some other flashy color, but only for like a second, just to see how it looks, not to keep it that way.
-Recently he has started practicing beautiful handwriting (he was doing that during the live), because he says he has bad handwriting and wants to make it better, and now he has more time due to the quarantine.
-I don’t remember the full schedule exactly, but he said that he usually trains in the morning, then does other things during the day and trains again a little in the evening.
-Another thing he took up is English conversation, because he wants to get better at English so he can speak normally. He says that currently he can somewhat grasp what people say to him but is not good at speaking. He says that it looks really cool when people (I think he means other Japanese skaters) can answer in English during press conferences at tournaments and he looks up to that.
-When asked if he resembles any other animals besides an otter, he said that he’s often told he resembles a dog.
-He’s born and raised in Osaka. He normally speaks with a strong Kansai accent (he did in the live too) and he said that people from Kanto (he mentioned Sion Kamada who is from Hokkaido) laugh at what he says even when he is not saying something funny, because they say he “sounds like a comedian”. (This is a common phenomenon. Kansai accent/dialect is mainly associated with comedy skits in areas where it’s not spoken, so people from those areas, like Kanto, will find it funny even when the person is speaking normally. It is true, though, that people from Osaka tend to have a distinct sense of humor)
-He was asked how he can stay thin despite eating a lot of ramen, and he said that he just burns more calories than he eats by exercising. Also, of course he does restrain himself to an extent, it’s not like he eats tons of ramen constantly.
-He places importance on breakfast and usually eats a lot in the morning. He feels that he can’t function properly if he doesn’t eat enough in the morning.

[Anecdotes about Koshiro, Shoma, Sota and Taichi]
-He said “Koshiro-kun is really a good person” about 200 times and then he said that he shouldn’t say it so much because then Koshiro will feel smug and tell him “I heard that you praised me in your Insta Live. Thank you~”
-He said that in the beginning (when they weren’t as close as now), when he told Koshiro random things Koshiro used to listen to him all seriously and enthusiastically (like “really? oh, I see!”), but now he got used to it so he’s just nodding and being like “yeah” without paying too much attention. (But he still listens to him because he’s a good person lol)
-Someone wrote in the comments that Koshiro looks more like “the older brother” (even though he’s younger) of the two and he agreed, then said “well, sometimes I can act like an older brother too!!”.
-Yesterday, before the live, he was jumping rope with Koshiro (and maybe Taichi? I forgot..) and said that it was super hard and he’s not good at it while Koshiro is very good (this morning he did another live where he jumped rope with Taichi Honda and was taking on some challenges).
-One time he woke up and started talking with Koshiro over the phone while eating breakfast, then they continued talking basically the whole day. He joked saying “like a married couple”, lol.
-He was asked if he plays games with Shoma and said “I do, but he’s too strong and always kicks my ass, so it’s frustrating. Well, not frustrating, more like “ook, right”. He’s super strong. I get bored easily so I don’t play one game for long periods of time. I already got tired of Animal Crossing too.”
-He also plays games with Sota every day and they talk to each other on the phone while they do. He often plays games with Taichi as well.
