the game ended around 6:45pm which is why it's already dark outside. the lamp posts are the only source of light they have right now. joaquin was walking towards the entrance of the stadium's parking lot.
joaquin was silently waiting beside kiko's car. he was humming their university's hymm when he suddenly felt a cap above his head.
“baka hindi ka komportableng may makakita sating dalawa.” kiko said while securing the cap in joaquin's head. “tara na?”
joaquin just nodded in response before making his way towards the passenger seat.
“kamusta ka na?” joaquin broke the silence.
“okay lang naman... kayo ba? si peri kamusta?” kiko asked in return.
“si madam ganun pa rin, pero mas madalas na tulog ngayon.”
“nakita ko yung story mo. lagi bang nag aabang sa pinto?” kiko opened the topic.
“hmmm, lagi. lalo pag aalis na ko, laging nakabantay sa pinto inaantay ka na sumulpot.” joaquin silently said.
“sorry...”
“hmmm, okay nga lang. naiintindihan namin na busy ka sa training.” joaquin assured him.
kiko's hold in the steering wheel tightened. hindi niya alam kung kaya ba niyang sabihin kay joaquin na hindi lang siya sa training busy kaya hindi siya makabisita.
the mood immediately went warm when joaquin started talking about peri. he told joaquin all the funny and annoying encounters he had with their cat. kiko was laughing at every story. he felt like he hadn't missed any moments with peri as joaquin was telling the stories with utmost enthusiasm.
the car was filled with laughs and stories not until a call from kiko's phone came in.
it may be from an unknown number, but kiko definitely knows who.
“sagutin mo muna, baka importante.” joaquin said.
kiko was contemplating whether to answer or end the call, but just like what joaquin said, it could be something important. and because he was driving, he had no other choice but to leave the call on speakers.
“kiko...” jennie was sobbing on the line.
“bakit?” kiko nervously answered.
“we need you here... natatakot ako.” jennie wailed which caught joaquin's attention.
“s-sige susunod ako.”
“ngayon na please, baka mapaano ako.” jennie hysterically said.
“s-sige o-oo”
“bilisan mo, kiko ha? kailangan kita...”
kiko quickly ends the call and took a glance at joaquin who's looking outside.
“may sakayan naman malapit dito, ibaba mo na lang ako.” joaquin sternly said.
“joaquin... ihahatid kita.”
“kiko, mas kailangan ka ata niya.” joaquin looks at kiko.
“joaquin naman...”
“it's okay. wag kang mag alala. hindi ko naman tatanungin sino siya.”
“joaquin, ihahatid nga kita.”
“hindi mo ba narinig? kailangan ka nga niya. kaya puntahan mo na, kiko. kaya ko na sarili ko.”
kiko felt the authority and anger from joaquin's voice so he had no choice but to drop joaquin at the jones bridge.
joaquin quickly took his seatbelts off and exited the car so kiko can finally drive towards that someone important.
